Land belonging to Waqf Board illegally sold has been recovered in Coimbatore

The land belonging to the Waqf Board near Podanur in Coimbatore was illegally sold to an individual by three former executives of the mosque and the said land and the house have been recovered and handed over back to the Waqf Board.



Coimbatore: It has been affirmed that the illegal sale of land belonging to the Waqf Board to private parties near Podanur in Coimbatore district has been confirmed.

Masjid-ul-Madinah Sunnat wal Jamaath is located in the Podanur Bazaar area. Mohammad Shakir was the vice-president of the Masjid-ul-Madinah Sunnat wal Jama'ath, which is under the control of the Tamil Nadu Waqf Board.

In April 1998, a meeting chaired by him had passed a resolution to allot a place for the imam working at the mosque. Subsequently, 826 square feet of land was purchased in August that year. Later, in 2005, Kaleem Badshah, who was the former chairman of the mosque, said, “Former secretary Mohammed Sadiq Pasha and former Muthavalli Asif Kader Pasha were allegedly involved in the illegal sale of land belonging to the Tamil Nadu Waqf Board's school on October 5, 2005, to a person named Basheer, who was not related to the school.

Fellow Muslims of Podanur lodged a complaint with the Chief Executive Officer of The Tamil Nadu Waqf Board, Chennai and the Superintendent of Coimbatore.

However, parvish khan, on behalf of the public of Pothanur area, filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking action against the persons involved in the scam as it was alleged that the chief management was running out of time without taking action.

Chennai The Madras High Court on Thursday directed a committee headed by Chennai Tamil Nadu Waqf Board Chairman Abdul Rahman to conduct an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the sale of waqf board property to former chairman Kalimbatsa, Mohammed Sadiq Badshah and Asif Kader Bhatsa within a period of two months.

During the investigation, it was found that the said land and the house were purchased on 30.04.1998 in the name of Masjid-ul-Madinah Sunnat wal Jamaat mosque from the mosque building fund and from the Ramadan Kanji Fund.

It has also been confirmed that the mosque's former chairman Kaleem Badshah, former secretary Mohammad Sadiq Pasha and former Muthavalli Asif Kader Pasha were involved in the illegal sale.

Following this, the particular land and house, which were illegally sold to an individual, have been recovered and handed back to the mosque management.
