The traditional Pavalakodi kummi attam near Sulur - the public watched and enjoyed it

The 100-year-old Swayambu Mariamman temple at Kammalapatti village near Sulur in Coimbatore district was celebrated. More than 200 women and children participated in the pavalakodi kummiattam ceremony and performed a traditional dance, which was witnessed by the people of the area.


Coimbatore: The 100-year-old Swayambu Mariamman Temple in Kammalapatti village near Sulur has been celebrating Pongal and Poochattu festival on May 9, 2018, with programmes such as sakthi kalasam taking, maavilakku pooja, thirukalyana ceremony for amman and vilakku pooja.

On this occasion, 200 people, including women, children and youth, participated in the performance of The Karnan Art Troupe.



Kummi attam is a traditional art form of Kongu Nadu. To summon Mariamman and adore her through the kummi dance, they chanted amman melodies as kummi songs, clapped their hands, and danced.



The audience was attracted by the moment in which kids sang kummi songs in beautiful Kongu Tamil and invited Amman.



In accordance with the kummi song in the same uniform, the kummiyadi women and children performed the kummi dance by clapping their hands.

Hundreds of people gathered to observe and enjoy the kummi attam, presided over by Pavalakkodi kummi attam teacher Nagaraj.
