Councillors stage sit-in protest against panchayat president - Bustle near Sulur

Three DMK activists staged a sit-in protest near Sulur in Coimbatore district on Monday against the village panchayat president. Meanwhile, tension prevailed in the area as people gathered in front of the panchayat office in support of the woman panchayat president and staged a protest.

More than 6,000 people live in nine wards in Selakkarichal panchayat near Sulur in Coimbatore district. Maragatha Vadivu is the president of the panchayat.



There are four AIADMK councillors who have won as independents and five councillors who are supporting the DMK.

In such a situation, maragatha vadivu is the woman leader of the AIADMK as the AIADMK is in majority.

The five have not attended the panchayat meetings for the last six months. The meetings have been continuously boycotted as panchayat functioning is not being conducted properly.



They are also staging a sit-in protest at the panchayat office alleging that the president does not respect the councillors and is indulging in malpractices.

Following this, the local public gathered at the panchayat office and held placards in support of the woman panchayat president Maragatha Vadivu.



The additional director of the district panchayat,later reached the spot, is investigating the clash with the chairman between the councillors.

The Sulur police, who reached the spot after receiving information that the public was engaged in the protest, reconciled with them and temporarily called off the protest.

In this situation, tension prevailed in the area as the councillors and other councillors who were involved in the sit-in protest held talks with the leader.
