The Chennai Meteorological Centre has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Coimbatore, Nilgiris and Erode districts due to the presence of easterly winds and westerly winds in the upper atmosphere of South India.
Coimbatore: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Coimbatore, Nilgiris and Erode districts.
The notification read, "In the upper atmosphere of the southern parts of the country, there exists an area in the lower strata where the easterly and the westerly winds meet.
Due to this, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is likely to occur at most places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal today.
Accordingly, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in Erode, Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely to occur at a few places in Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur and Tiruvannamalai districts. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Theni, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Salem, Namakkal, Perambalur, Trichy, Karur, Dindigul, Tirupur and Tenkasi districts. Chennai is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall for the next 48 hours."
