ICAI, ICCI Hold GST Seminar in Coimbatore

The Coimbatore Branch of ICAI and the Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry organised a one-day GST seminar, bringing together tax professionals, accountants and industry representatives to discuss compliance, risk analysis, GST amendments and dispute resolution.

The Coimbatore Branch of the Southern India Regional Council (SIRC) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), in association with the Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI), Coimbatore, organised a one-day seminar on Goods and Services Tax (GST) at the ICCI premises on Saturday.



The seminar brought together Chartered Accountants, Sales Tax Practitioners, GST Practitioners, tax consultants, accountants and representatives from trade and industry to deliberate on contemporary GST issues, compliance requirements and practical challenges. The organisers said the initiative aimed to strengthen collaboration between professionals, businesses and the tax administration while promoting ease of doing business.



Addressing the gathering, CA Survajith S. Krishnan, Chairman of the Coimbatore Branch of SIRC of ICAI, said GST has created an interconnected ecosystem involving the government, businesses and professionals. He emphasised that effective compliance can be achieved through better coordination and mutual understanding among the tax department, taxpayers and professionals, thereby reducing avoidable disputes.

CA M. Kailash Kumar, Treasurer of ICCI, highlighted the crucial role played by accountants, tax practitioners and Chartered Accountants in ensuring tax compliance, particularly for MSMEs. He stressed the need for continuous learning and knowledge enhancement across the accounting and taxation profession to keep pace with evolving GST regulations.

Dr S. Ponnusamy, Deputy Commissioner (Inspection), Coimbatore Intelligence Division, who attended as the Guest of Honour, underscored the importance of constructive engagement between the tax department and professionals. He said Chartered Accountants and tax practitioners serve as an important bridge between taxpayers and the administration, helping improve compliance and minimise disputes.

The technical sessions featured CA M. Vishnukumar on scrutiny and risk analysis of GST registration, CA Aravind Thangam P. on the latest changes to e-way bills and penalty provisions under Sections 74 and 74A, and CA J. Balasubramanian on practical solutions to critical GST issues covering supply, valuation, audit, inspection, notices and dispute resolution. A special session was also conducted by the Tally team.

The seminar concluded with active participation from professionals and industry representatives, reaffirming the shared commitment of ICAI and ICCI to enhancing GST awareness, promoting compliance and supporting businesses through knowledge-sharing initiatives.
