Anganwadi workers in Coimbatore call off strike after fruitful talks with Social Welfare Minister Geetha Jeevan

More than 200 Anganwadi workers staged a sit-in dharna on the road near the Collectorate in the city for the continuous second day today.



Coimbatore: The striking Anganwadi workers have called off their two-day-long strike to press for various demands, including filling up of existing vacancies even as an agreement was reached in a meeting held with TN Social Welfare Minister Geetha Jeevan in Chennai.

The Tamil Nadu Anganwadi Employees and Helpers Association staged a hunger strike across Tamil Nadu demanding the filling up of existing vacancies, and benefits including summer vacation.



More than 200 Anganwadi workers staged a sit-in dharna on the road near the Collectorate in the city for the continuous second day today.

The strike was called off across Tamil Nadu after Minister Geetha Jeevan reached an agreement in her talks with the office bearers of the Anganwadi workers union in Chennai.



Following this, more than 200 striking employees, who were on a hunger strike near the Collectorate, ended their strike and dispersed.

Earlier, Coimbatore MP PR. Natarajan greeted the workers who continued with the protest and reached an agreement with the Minister.
