Woman tea estate worker injured in leopard attack near Valparai

Coimbatore: A migrant tea estate worker Seethamuni Kumari (22), was attacked by a leopard while she was engaged in plucking tea at a tea estate in Sirukundra Estate near Valparai.

The woman has been admitted to a hospital with injuries on her hands and legs.

The movement of wildlife is on the rise in the estate areas around Valparai in Coimbatore district.

Meanwhile, there have been frequent incidents of wild animal incursion into residential areas including leopards, elephants and bears.



DMK city secretary Sudhakar, Municipal vice-chairman Senthil Kumar and others met the injured woman and consoled her.

“The growing movement of leopards in the area has driven the tea estate workers and residents into a state.

Forest department should take steps to prevent wild animals from entering the village” said the locals.
