Coimbatore: About 1,000 saplings were planted in Mayileripalayam panchayat on behalf of the DMK South district unit, in view of the centenary celebrations of former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and the 70th birth anniversary of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin.

DMK South district president Thalapathy Murugesan inaugurated the project by planting saplings of native varieties.

Panchayat employees and students of private colleges jointly planted 1,000 saplings, including native varieties of neem, mango tree and guava saplings.
Speaking to reporters DMK district secretary Thalapathy Murugesan said, “The tree planting drive would be taken up across the South district These saplings will be maintained by the respective panchayat and town panchayat authorities by erecting fences and by watering it.”
He also said and added that party functionaries and volunteers will take up the task of planting saplings in succession throughout the Coimbatore South district.
