'TN government should engage renowned archaeologists to study the spiritual antiquity of the Copper plates, idols found in Sirkazhi' -Vanathi Srinivasan

According to Tamil scholars a piece of significant archaeological evidence in the history of Tamil Nadu has been found which serves as a great document.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan has urged the TN government to study the Panchaloka idols and copper plates which were found in Sirkazhi in Mayiladuthurai district during the digging of a pit for Yagasalai, and in Alwar Thirunagari in Thoothudi district.

In a statement, she said, "On Sunday, April 16, during the renovation work of Sirkali Arulmigu Sattanathar temple, around 23 panchaloha idols and copper plates were found. In the copper plates, one of the treasures of our mother Tamil language, Thevaram Pathigams, has been written. These finds have surprised the Gurumaha Sannidhanam of the oldest Dharmapuram Adheenam, and many Tamil scholars and archaeologists",

According to Tamil scholars, "A significant archaeological evidence in the history of Tamil Nadu has been found as a great document, with this discoveries"

“Appar, Sundarar and Thirugnanasambandar, the three Saivite saints who laid the foundation for the rise of Saivism, sang the Pathigams, which were called ‘Thirumaraigal” and Thevaram. Its period is from the 6th to the 9th century AD. So far, the Thevarapathigams have been found only in manuscripts” Vanathi noted.

“In some places, inscriptions are also found. However, scholars point out that for the first time, the discovery of Thevarapathigams in copper plates is a very important find in the history of Tamil Nadu” Vanathi Srinivasan added.

“Similarly, last week, manuscripts containing text for Thiruvaimozhi hymns composed by Nammazhwar, one of the twelve Azhwars, were discovered at the Arulmigu Adinathar Azhwar temple at Alwarthirunagari in Thoothukudi district, which is of great spiritual interest”.

“The Hindu temples that are hundreds of years old are found all over Tamil Nadu. It is proof that Tamil Nadu is a spiritual land” she said.

Alleging that the Chief Minister and DMK leaders are speaking against the spiritual traditions of Tamil Nadu Vanathi said "they are proclaiming that this is their policy. Atheism speaks of the territory of Dravidianism as 'race' and that Tamils have no religion”.

“This has created fears among the elders and spiritual leaders who believe in the spiritual traditions of Tamil Nadu as to how the DMK government is going to handle this archaeological evidence. Therefore, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin should intervene and order a study by archaeologists who have long experience in the field of archaeology and are well-versed in the spiritual tradition of Tamil Nadu into the latest findings. Otherwise, it should be sent to the Archaeological Survey of India for examination” Vanathi Srinivasan said.
