A major accident was averted as a truck carrying cardboard boxes near Thudiyalur caught fire after hitting an electric wire and caught fire, while a youth bravely took the truck away. Firefighters fought for two hours to bring the fire under control.

Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, a truck carrying cartons caught fire near Thudiyalur in Coimbatore district.

A lorry from Kovilpalayam in Coimbatore, carrying cardboard boxes, was on its way to Goundampalayam. Kannan was driving the lorry. He was accompanied by two men and two women in the truck.

In this case, when the lorry was coming to Senkalipalayam near Thudiyalur, he turned the lorry to the left to make way for the bus coming from the opposite direction.

At that time, cardboard boxes had rubbed against the electric wire in the transformer of a private company on the side of the road.

Then there was a loud noise in the transformer and the cardboard boxes caught fire and started burning. The truck driver and his companions immediately got down and escaped unhurt if those nearby warned them.

As the fire spread rapidly in a truck parked on the road and everyone was afraid to go nearby, a young man named Balakrishnan bravely started the burning truck and took it to a nearby uninhabited place and stopped it, averting a major untoward incident.

Fire brigade personnel led by Dhanasekara Pandian and Hariramakrishnan fought for about two hours in two vehicles from Goundampalayam and Periyanayakanpalayam fire stations to bring the fire under control after the fire department was informed about the incident.

A JCB vehicle was called in and the cardboard boxes in the truck were pulled down and the fire was doused.
