It is not known as to what will determine eligibility for the issue of entitlement to housewives. Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan said the Tamil Nadu government's budget was a disappointment to the people and a budget without any vision.
Coimbatore: BJP women's wing national president and Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan has said that the budget presented by the Tamil Nadu government is "disappointing" to the people and a "visionless" budget.
In a statement, she said, “During the 2021 Assembly elections, the DMK had promised to give a monthly entitlement of Rs 1,000 to all housewives in Tamil Nadu. It has not been implemented even after two years of coming to power.
As the opposition parties and the public continued to question it and put pressure on the DMK government, there was no other option. The budget has announced that from September 15, 2018, ₹1,000 will be given to housewives.
However, it has been announced that it will be given to eligible housewives and not to all. It is not known on what basis qualified housewives will be selected.
Rs 7,000 crore has been allocated for the project. Accordingly, half of the housewives in Tamil Nadu will not get a claim amount of Rs 1,000. This would be an injustice to the middle class people. Therefore, all housewives should be given a claim amount of Rs 1,000.
Development in Tamil Nadu is balanced in all the districts. Therefore, it is disappointing that there are no separate schemes for the development of backward districts, districts which are dependent solely on agriculture and are dominated by agricultural labourers.
It has been announced in the budget that all the schools functioning under various departments such as Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department, Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities Welfare Department, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, Forest Department will be brought under the purview of the School Education Department.
Schools started by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department should have Hindu religious education on the temple land, with the temple funds. In schools run by other religious institutions, schools start with prayer songs in their respective religions. Similarly, hindu religious education should be ensured in schools started with Hindu temple funds.
Tamil Nadu's tax revenue has increased in terms of registration of deeds, property tax, excise duty and road tax. However, in order to reduce the fiscal and revenue deficit, the government seems to have reduced funds for schemes.
In 2023-24, the Tamil Nadu government has planned to borrow Rs 1,43,197.93 crore. As a result, as on 31.3.2024, the total debt of the Government of Tamil Nadu will be Rs.7,26,28.83 crore.
Taking steps to reduce debts is the hallmark of good governance. The DMK government did not do that. On the whole, the DMK government has presented a budget that is disappointing to the people and has no vision.
