'The Elephant Whisperers', wins Oscar Award in the Best Documentary (short film) category, CM Stalin greets the film makers for their achievement

While congratulating the director–producer pair, Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Mongo, M K Stalin said. "It's a documentary that deserves all the awards and there's no better news than it was won by two women for India for the first-ever time”.


Coimbatore: The documentary 'The Elephant Whisperers', a story of a tribal couple in Mudumalai caring for an abandoned elephant calf has won the Academy Awards (Oscars) in the best documentary short film category.



Chief Minister M K Stalin greeted the film-makers for their achievement and for bringing glory to India and Tamil Nadu.

While congratulating the director–producer pair, Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Mongo, M K Stalin said. "It's a documentary that deserves all the awards and there's no better news than it was won by two women for India, for the first-ever time”.

The 95th Academy Awards ceremony was at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angels, USA, starting at 5:30 am (IST) today.

Indian actress Deepika Padukone has been one of the guests of honour at the ceremony, which caught the attention of the entire world.



The documentary 'The Elephant Whisperers', which was shot in Tamil Nadu, and produced by Netflix has been selected for the Oscars in the Best documentary short film category.



The documentary is about Bomman and Bellie, a tribal couple who took care of the baby elephants abandoned by a herd of elephants in Mudumalai, Tamil Nadu.

Directed by Wildlife filmmaker Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Mongo, it tells the story of Raghu, the calf which they reared.

The documentary emotionally captures the life of the "Kattunayaka" tribes, namely, Bomman and Bellie and their relationship with elephants.

It is noteworthy that every nook and corner of the world is now reverberating with the names Bomman and Bellie, due to the Oscars.
