Coimbatore: The documentary 'The Elephant Whisperers', a story of a tribal couple in Mudumalai caring for an abandoned elephant calf has won the Academy Awards (Oscars) in the best documentary short film category.

The documentary is about Bomman and Bellie, a tribal couple who took care of the baby elephants abandoned by a herd of elephants in Mudumalai, Tamil Nadu.
Directed by Wildlife filmmaker Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Mongo, it tells the story of Raghu, the calf which they reared.
The documentary emotionally captures the life of the "Kattunayaka" tribes, namely, Bomman and Bellie and their relationship with elephants.
It is noteworthy that every nook and corner of the world is now reverberating with the names Bomman and Bellie, due to the Oscars.
