Seven arrested for hoarding huge quantities of gelatin sticks and detonators illegally for sale in the black market

According to police the seven had illegally hoarded the gelatin sticks which are used for demolishing old buildings and sold it for a premium in the black market.


Coimbatore: The Police seized 622 gelatin sticks and 350 electric detonators from Seven persons who have been running an illegal business of gelatin sticks near Karamadai.

According to Police, the seven had illegally hoarded the gelatin sticks which are used for demolishing old buildings and sold them for a premium in the black market.

Inspector Sultan Ibrahim and Head constable Sivaprakash were on patrol duty near Karamadai when they intercepted two suspicious persons proceeding in two-wheelers near the Kannarpalayam section.



On interrogation, they were Identified as Dinesh (23) and Anand (25) from Thrissur, Suresh Kumar (41) from Karamadai and Senthil Kumar (43) from Tiruvarur.



On checking the handbags, it was found that it contained 650 electric detonators in 26 bundles. Police found out that Suresh Kumar and Senthilkumar was working for Rangaraj, a native of Karamadai, who was in the business of demolishing old buildings.

Rangaraj was using explosives illegally and without any permit to blow up old buildings. Some of the electric detonators used in this way have been illegally sold to Kerala at a higher price.

Based on this, the police arrested Rangaraj and interrogated him.

The police also seized 622 gelatin sticks and 350 electric detonators from another place where his work was going on illegally.

It was also confirmed that Rangaraj had procured the explosives from Perumal of Sirumuga, Gopal of Annur and Chandrasekharan of Karamadai.

Based on a series of investigations conducted by the police, all those involved in the racket were arrested.

Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Badrinarayanan rushed to the spot and inspected a total of 1244 electric detonators and 622 gelatin sticks seized from the arrested persons.

The SP congratulated the police for their proactive action in the case.
