Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam petitions collector against acquisition of agricultural land near Irugur

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam staged a protest in front of the district collectorate alleging that the Irugur town panchayat administration was acquiring agricultural lands allegedly in support of the real estate firm operating in the area.

Coimbatore: Speaking to reporters later, Palaniswami, President of the association, alleged that “some private real estate firms have purchased land near Irugur town panchayat and made a layout of residential plots”.

In the meanwhile, the Irugur town panchayat administration decided to widen the 30-feet road in their favour and was trying to acquire agricultural land for the purpose.

Palaniswami also said that "the town panchayat administration had marked the trees which would be cut in due course saying it was planted on encroached lands".

He also urged that action should be taken against the Town Panchayat Executive Officer who is arbitrarily trying to widen the road without any pretext.

Following this, the farmers submitted a petition to the District collector.
