Residents urge Forest department officials to drive away wild elephants camping near Kotagiri

Panicked over the presence of wild elephants camping in kozhikarai tribal village near Kotagiri, the residents have demanded that the Forest department take steps to drive away the elephants into dense forests.



The Nilgiris: Wild elephants are camping in a tribal village near Kotagiri in the Nilgiris district, which is causing panic among the people of the area.

Kunjappanai, Mamaram, Mullur and Kozhikarai are the tribal villages occurring on the highway from Kotagiri to Mettupalayam.

The people of Kolikkarai tribal village, including Melkoopu, Kilkoopu, Semmanarai, Vagapanai, Attadi and Kozhithorai, are using the road as the arterial road for their day-to-day activities.



In this situation, a herd of wild elephants, which have left the forest area are camping in the coffee and tea plantations on the roadside leaving the residents scared.



Due to this, the residents have urged the Forest department to take steps and intensify patrolling to drive away the herd of wild elephants roaming inside the residential area into the dense forest areas.
