About 1,500 police personnel to be deployed for security duty for Republic Day-Police Commissioner K. Balakrishnan

Coimbatore City Police Commissioner K Balakrishnan has said that tight security arrangements have been made across the city ahead of the Republic Day celebrations and 1,500 police personnel will be deployed for security duty in the city.


Coimbatore: Security has been beefed up across Coimbatore city ahead of the Republic Day celebrations. Coimbatore City Police Commissioner K Balakrishnan inspected the security measures at Coimbatore railway junction.



He also enquired from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) about the functioning of scanner devices that check passengers' belongings and all about the safety arrangements, which have been made.



Speaking to reporters later, Commissioner Balakrishnan said 1,500 police personnel will be deployed across the city on January 25 and 26.

In addition, inspections are being carried out at Coimbatore railway junction, Vadakovai, Podanur railway stations and important bus stands, pressing into service sniffer dogs.

“Surveillance has been intensified on those involved in the main crime case. The police are also conducting vehicle checks at 11 locations around the city” he said.

“Temporary checkpoints will be set up. Similarly, hostel owners have been instructed to collect complete details of the persons staying in private hostels across the city”.

“Strict action will be taken against those who permit the stay of persons without mandatory details” the Police commissioner said.
