City police give away roses to motorists for following road rules even at midnight in the city

The city police felicitated and encouraged the motorists who followed the road rules and stopped at the signals even during the night hours by gifting them roses.

Coimbatore: Multiple studies have pointed out that road accidents can be reduced to a great extent only by strictly adhering to traffic and road rules.

Road violations such as jumping signals without following traffic rules, and driving two-wheelers without wearing helmets are rampant in the city, even though awareness is being created by traffic police and NGOs.

Coimbatore Traffic police have launched a novel initiative to encourage those who follow traffic rules, especially at signals during day and night.

As per the measure, the signals, which are usually opened at ten o'clock, were deliberately left to work at the lakshmi mills signal junction till 12 midnight.

Strangely enough, motorists made it point to strictly follow traffic rules, even though there wasn’t any vehicle coming in the opposite side even at the late hour. The motorists respected the signal and followed the traffic rules and operated their vehicles as law-abiding road users.

The city traffic police, which wanted to reward such law-abiding road users gave away roses and felicitated the motorists who stopped till the signal changed to green.

The cops briefed them on the need to adhere to traffic rules and also advised the motorists who violated road rules.

The friendly and meaningful gestures of traffic cops came in for appreciation from the road users and the general public.
