Sasikumar, an auto-rickshaw driver from Singanallur, was duped of thousands of rupees by the online scamsters, who on the pretext of giving him a "prize money" of Rs 13 lakh, collected thousands of rupees from him. Police are on the look out for the online fraudsters.
Coimbatore: Sasikumar, is an autodriver from Singanallur and he had purchased two items from Naphthal, an online shopping site recenlty.
In the meantime, he received a message on his mobile number, infomring him that he had won Rs. 13 lakh as prize money, which was based on his purchase from Naphthal .
The online scamsers, who set the trap, had waited for the call form Sasikumar and infomred him that to get the prize money he had to pay GST, and other expenses.
Believing this to be true, Sasikumar had depositied Rs 10,000 and Rs .5000 susequently.in the bank account of the online scamsters.
When the prize money had not been deposited to Sasikumar's account.as was promised by the scamsers, Sasikumar had lodged a complaint with the Coimbatore City Cyber Crime Police.
Based on the complaint, the Police have registered a case and are investigating.
The City Cyber Crime Police have been advising the public not to be fooled by the false offers, prizes and assurances sent via SMS and other digital modes.
It is to be noted that the City Cyber Crime Police have been conducting awareness programmes urging the publicnot to fall prey to such fradulent messages.
