Police seize 1.5 tonnes of gutka stored in godown near Sulur in Coimbatore; 4 arrested

Based on a tip-off received by the Special Cell police, the police raided a private godown near Sulur Pappampatti Pirivu in Coimbatore and seized about 1.5 tonnes of gutka items hoarded for sale.


Coimbatore: Based on a tip-off received by the Special Task Force set up to monitor and curb the sale of gutka and ganja, police raided a private godown near Sulur's Pappampatti division in Coimbatore.

About 1.5 tonnes of gutka items were found illegally stored in the godown. Sudhakaran (43), Gurunathan Ethiraj (50), Selvakumar (47) and Sivakumar (38) were arrested for allegedly purchasing gutka items from outside the State and hoarding them for sale.

With a view to completely eradicate the circulation of drugs including ganja in Coimbatore district, a special team led by the District Superintendent of Police, V Badrinarayanan has been formed and intensive checking and surveillance work is underway.
