CCTV footage of wild elephants rampaging village near Thudiyalur goes viral on social media

As wild elephants rampaged the temporary settlements of construction workers near Thudiyalur, there was a hue and cry among the frightened workers which was captured on CCTV camera and has now gone viral on social media.


Coimbatore: The movement of wild elephants in villages including Pannimadai, Varapalayam and Ponnuthu near Thudiyalur in Coimbatore district has been on the rise for the past few months.

Moreover, in these villages at the foothills of the Western Ghats, wild elephants have been sighted frequently in search of water and food.



A herd of four elephants entered Kathir Naickenpalayam village on Monday night and rampaged across settlements of construction workers and damaged crops too. The herd dragged out the rice sacks stored by the workers and ate the rice.



Construction workers ran amok in fright after seeing the elephants rampage and the CCTV camera in the area has captured images of the entire rampage by the elephants. The video has gone viral on social media.

Locals have demanded that the Forest Department intensify patrolling since wild elephants are often seen roaming around at night near human settlements in search of food.
