Hitesh Kumar, Principal Secretary to Government, Tamil Nadu Urban Development Department who inspected the existing re-construction tenements at Coimbatore Town Hall, Variety Hall Road, stated that 6,296 tenements are being constructed in Coimbatore at an estimated cost of Rs. 624 crore.
Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Urban Development Board (TNUDB) is in the process of reconstructing 448 re-construction tenements at a cost of Rs.45.05 crore at Coimbatore Corporation Town Hall on Variety Hall Road.
Hitesh Kumar S Makwana, Principal Secretary to Government, Tamil Nadu Housing and Urban Development Department inspected the construction work on Thursday. In addition, an apartment with 85 tenements was constructed at a cost of Rs.7.79 crore at Mekerigar Road, RS Puram. He also visited and inspected an apartment building with 528 tenements constructed at a cost of Rs. 46.44 crore in Selvapuram IUDP Colony.
This was followed by a meeting at the Collectorate auditorium in Coimbatore to discuss the city's draft master plan report and the map. The meeting chaired by Hitesh Kumar S Makwana, Principal Secretary to Government, Tamil Nadu Urban Development Department was attended by the Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran, Corporation Commissioner M Prathap, District Revenue Officer Leela Alex and other Government officials.
Speaking at the meeting, Hitesh Kumar S Makwana, Principal Secretary to Government, Tamil Nadu Urban Development Department said, "The objective of the project is to create a sustainable and better habitat for the people of the city with modern, social infrastructure facilities with Coimbatore Urban Development area as an economic zone.
Optimized use of land, decentralized employment and development of infrastructure to support economic development, protecting greenery, combining different kinds of developments using GIS technologies with the main objective being to plan for future development and implement the new land classification are the the key goals. At present, Coimbatore Urban Development area has been expanded to 1531.53 sq.km. and a draft status report has been prepared."
"Coimbatore Urban Development Zone consists of 4 Municipalities, 21 Town Panchayats and 67 Panchayats. The Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board is constructing 6796 tenements at Mettupalayam, Valparai, Pollachi, Selvapuram, Ukkadam, Gandhipuram, Variety Hall, R S Puram and other areas at an estimated cost of Rs. 624.11 crore through 26 projects. Out of this, 2,261 tenements have been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.122.62 crore through 10 schemes.
The remaining 4,535 tenements are under construction at an estimated cost of Rs.501.49 crore. The Department officials should take necessary steps to complete these works expeditiously," added Hitesh Kumar.
