Former Minister S P Velumani alleges DMK Govt. of setting up SIDCO industrial estate to thwart Avinashi-Athikadavu project

S P Velumani met the protesting farmers and expressed support for the Government's decision to acquire agricultural land in Annur area for setting up an industrial estate.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Goverment had issued an order two weeks ago that the SIDCO industrial estate will be set up on 3,731 acres of land in Annur. Hence, farmers are protesting against the Tamil Nadu Government's decision to acquire their agricultural land.

As part of the protest, more than 3,000 farmers went on a hunger strike near the Annur bus stand on Monday.

Meanwhile, AIADMK legislators Selvaraj, PRG Arunkumar, Amul Kandasamy and Dhanapal from Coimbatore, led by AIADMK Headquarters Secretary and former Minister S P Velumani met the farmers and expressed AIADMK's support to their cause.

Following this, former Minister S P Velumani spoke to reporters saying, "The Tamil Nadu Government was deliberately bringing up the SIDCO industrial estate to stall the 60-year-old dream project of the farmers, which is our Avinashi-Athikadavu project, where 90 percent of the work has already been completed.

The AIADMK will never allow the setting up of an industrial estate in Annur and we will fight with the farmers for the same. S P Velumani also said that a special calling attention motion will be moved on behalf of the AIADMK in the coming Assembly session in this regard.
