Two youth from Assam arrested for possession of new narcotic substance near Thondamuthur in Coimbatore

The police have arrested two youth from Assam on suspicion, near Thondamuthur in Coimbatore. During a search, the youth were found to be in possession of a new type of narcotic substance weighing 300 milligrams.


Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Prohibition Cell police conducted a vehicle check near the Mutthipalayam bus stop in Thondamuthur in Coimbatore. During the routine check, the police caught hold of two youth who were standing there suspiciously and interrogated them.

Suspecting that the youth could be peddling drugs, the police searched them and found a small quantity of orange-coloured vials containing 300 milligrams of a new narcotic substance. Following this, the police seized the drug and during interrogation it was identified that the youth were Azharul Islam and Abdul Muttalib from Assam.

It was also revealed that the duo were staying at Thondamuthur in Coimbatore and were working as labourers. Following this, the police arrested the two and produced them in Court and sent them to jail.

The seizing of an unidentified new narcostic substance in Coimbatore has caused a stir in the city. The police said, "We are investigating what kind of narcotic substance did Azharul Islam and Abdul Muttalib possess. It is a new type of drug, similar to a mixture of various narcotic powders. The drug, which is orange in colour, is worth up to Rs.16,000. It has been sent to the Chemical Analysis Laboratory at RS Puram in Coimbatore and the drug will be identified only after the test. is over. We are further investigating this drug peddling."
