Coimbatore: The Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) staged a protest in front of the Coimbatore South Tahsildar's office demanding that football be given priority in India.

The TPDK protesters alleged that the game of football does not get the duerecognition that the game of cricket gets and raised slogans that the game of cricket was a gamble.
More than 30 people from Dravidian parties, including the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi participated in the protest, which was led by the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam General Secretary, K Ramakrishnan.
"Football stadiums should be set up in all the districts and football matches should be conducted to create an incentive for the competition among the youth,” demanded K Ramakrishnan, General Secretary of TPDK.
It is to be noted that the protest is being held amidst the FIFA World Cup currently being underway in Qatar.
