Women try to set themselves on fire at Coimbatore Collectorate

Two women from Mettupalayam tried to set themselves on fire at the Coimbatore Collectorate alleging that their house had been usurped by two tenants who refuse to vacate.



Coimbatore: Amudha (50) and Nagamani (46), residents of Mettupalayam attempted to set themselves on fire in the premises of the Coimbatore District Collectorate on Monday which also happened to be the grievance redressal day.

Both women had already lodged a complaint with the police station in Mettupalayam that two persons had usurped their house as tenants and were refusing to vacate. In desperation, Amudha and Nagamani arrived at the Coimbatore District Collectorate and poured kerosene on their bodies in a bid at self-immolation.

The policemen on duty at the Collectorate stopped the women in their suicide bid and rescued them.
