Hunger strike in Coimbatore if roads are not repaired within a week - MLA SP Velumani

SP Velumani inspected the rainwater-affected areas in wards 87 and 88. While bad roads need immediate attention and work has already started in few areas, It is to be be noted that much of the bad condition of roads have been because of the disregard since last 5 years by AIADMK rule under SP Velumani.

Coimbatore: Former AIADMK minister SP Velumani today visited areas affected by rainwater in wards 87 and 88 near Kuniyamuthur in Coimbatore district.

Following this, he spoke to the press, “It has been raining continuously in these areas. Since it is a low-lying area, people are facing difficulties when the water in Senkulam is overflowing.

A tender was floated for sewerage in the area. But they cancelled it. A lot of trucks have to be brought in Redmix and the roads have to be repaired. None of them came here despite informing the district collector and municipal corporation commissioner.

No officials have come since morning. We rescued the old woman who was stranded in the water and put her in a different place. The government has done nothing for the people in this area. The authorities should please work.

No work has been carried out in Kurichikulam area for one-and-a-half years. 500 road works that were tendered have been cancelled. Since taxes are highly levied, basic tasks should be carried out without saying that there is no money.

After the work I have done in Chennai, I have not seen any work so far and this government is ignoring the people of Coimbatore district. After examining, I am going to submit a petition to the authorities about the impact. If the roads are not repaired in a week, a massive hunger strike will be held.

After 2011, all roads including Trichy and Palakkad were laid during the AIADMK rule. The work on the ongoing bridge in Coimbatore has been put on hold. Another 500 road works have been stopped. Now that the revenue of the corporation is high, the road works should start immediately.

It is said that the roads in Chennai are good. All the storm water drain works were set up during the AIADMK rule. It didn't even rain well. This government should do the job without paying attention to disclosures. I have to work without acting in television.”

While bad roads need immediate attention and work has already started in few areas, It is to be be noted that much of the bad condition of roads have been because of the disregard during the last 5 years of AIADMK rule under former Minister SP Velumani.
