Coimbatore: The police are on the lookout for the man who beat Venkatesh to death in a fit of rage near the town health centre in Saravanampatti, while sitting together and consuming alcohol. Venkatesh who suffered severe head injuries died on the spot.
Coimbatore: Venkatesh (53), a resident of Ganapathi Anna Nagar in Coimbatore was a labourer who was estranged from his wife and living separately. Being an alcoholic, Venkatesh used to return home drunk every day, after work.
On Thursday night, Venkatesh reportedly sat with some people near the town health centre in the area and consumed alcohol. Suddenly, an argument broke out between Venkatesh and another man. In a fit of rage, the man attacked Venkatesh with a stick and brutally beat him on the head. Venkatesh who suffered severe head injuries died on the spot.
Meanwhile, the frightened man reportedly fled from the spot. Onlookers in the area who were shocked to see Venkatesh lying dead informed the Saravanampatti police station. The police immediately reached the spot and recovered the body, and sent it to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for post-mortem. The police are also investigating the identity of the person who attacked Venkatesh.
