The highways department officials removed the shops that were encroached upon at the foothills of Maruthamalai in Coimbatore to obstruct traffic.

Coimbatore: At the foothills of the famous Marudhamalai temple in Coimbatore, there are various shops on both sides of the road, including a toy shop, a flower shop, a pazhadai and a confectionery shop.

Devotees who come to the temple buy fruits and flowers required for darshan of the deity and when they go home, they buy toys and toys for the children.

But there was a traffic jam as shops were kept occupying the road.

The devotees have been demanding that steps be taken to remove the encroachments.

While the highways department had already issued notices seeking the removal of the encroached shops, the shops were removed with the help of a pocline machine yesterday.
