The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M K Stalin held discussions with top police officials in connection with the Coimbatore car cylinder blast case. He also directed the police officials to further ensure security across Coimbatore district.
Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M K Stalin has ordered the transfer of the case related to the car cylinder blast near Ukkadam in Coimbatore to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
According to a press release issued by the Tamil Nadu Government on the ongoing investigation into the car cylinder blast that took place on October 23 near a temple in Ukkadam, in Coimbatore, a detailed review meeting was held at the Secretariat on October 26 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister M K Stalin, on the general law and order situation.
In the review meeting, discussions were held on the ongoing investigation by the police on the car explosion case and the precautionary security arrangements made in Coimbatore district. The Chief Minister M K Stalin directed police officials to further ensure security in Coimbatore district and enquired about the current status of the investigation in the case.
Since the investigation of such incidents is likely to involve trans-State evolutions and international connections, it was decided at the meeting to make suitable recommendations to the Union Government to transfer the investigation of the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
In order to strengthen the security of Coimbatore city, new police stations are to be set up immediately in three areas comprising Karumbukkadai, Sundarapuram and Kavundampalayam. It was also suggested that a special force be created in the Police Department to prevent such incidents from happening in the State in future.
It was also decided at the meeting that in major cities of Tamil Nadu, including Coimbatore and in the most populous areas, necessary steps should be taken to install additional modern CCTV cameras at the earliest. Other suggestions included additional police officers being appointed in the Intelligence Wing of the State, providing adequate protection to those who provide sensitive information about those involved in such illegal activities and those who are in contact with them.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Iraiyanbu, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Phanindra Reddy, Director General of Police Sylendra Babu, Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Davidson Devasirvatham and other senior police officials.
