Coimbatore Ukkadam car blast incident - culprit identified within 12 hours - DGP Sylendra Babu appreciates team

Explosives were found in the house of Jamesha Mubin, who died in the incident. Commissioner of Police Balakrishnan and Deputy Commissioner acted swiftly to find out his identity - DGP

COIMBATORE: In a shocking incident, a man was charred to death when a gas cylinder exploded in his car in front of Kottai Easwaran Temple in the Town Hall area in the wee hours today.

Investigations revealed that the deceased has been identified as Jamesha Mubin, a resident of GM Nagar, who was working in an old cloth shop.

DGP Sylendra Babu, who spoke to reporters about the progress of the case and the major moves, said a case has been registered at Ukkadam police station in connection with the incident that took place in Coimbatore in the morning. The investigation is still ongoing. The identity of the person who died in the incident has been ascertained.

The deceased has been identified as Jameesha Mubin (25), a resident of Ukkadam. We've got some evidence in the car. Nails and gelatin bomb items have been found and they have been seized and sent for forensic analysis. During a search at the man's house, we have recovered a small quantity of explosives (low intensity explosives), potassium nitrate, aluminium powder, sulphur etc.

These are raw materials for the manufacture of country-made bombs. There are no cases against the deceased person. However, we are interrogating some people associated with him.

As far as the incident is concerned, we have immediately ascertained within 12 hours who the culprit was and how the incident took place. The car was owned by nine people in between. The car was bought by a tenth person. We have also found out where the cylinder came from.

Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan and Deputy Commissioner acted swiftly to ascertain the identity of the person involved in the incident. We congratulate them.Six special squads were formed and an investigation was carried out.

The deceased Jamesha Mubin was an engineer.National Investigation Agency officials have interrogated the deceased in 2019. But there are no cases against him. There is a police checkpoint at the spot where the incident took place. He could not drive the car beyond that as 24/7 was on police duty there.

It is speculated that he might have stopped the car there and tried to escape. We are investigating why he took the car there. Perhaps this incident has more details to it for some future plan. The chances of attempting suicide are low. The deceased does not belong to any organization.

All those who came in contact with him over the last few years on his mobile phone are being questioned.

ADGP Thamaraikannan who handled the biggest cases, West Zone Police Chief Sudhakar and Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan all worked well."

When asked if there is a possibility of taking the case to the NIA, he said "there is good progress in the investigation and we can think about it after the completion of the investigation.

Around 1.10 lakh police personnel have been deployed across Tamil Nadu ahead of Deepavali. Additional security arrangements have been strengthened in Coimbatore and various areas."
