Milk Producers Association in Tirupur stage protest with milch animals at Sedarpalayam Milk Producers' Cooperative Society

The protesters demanded a hike in the procurement price of milk and a subsidised price for mixed fodder. They demanded that the procurement price of cow's milk should be increased to Rs. 41 per litre, and that of buffalo milk should be increased to Rs. 52 per litre, and that of mixed fodder should be given a subsidised price.

Tirupur: A large number of milk producers along with milch animals staged a protest in front of the Sedarpalayam Milk Producers' Cooperative Society in Tirupur district.

The protesters stated that the prices of fodder such as cotton seeds, cake and mixed fodder required for cow-rearing had gone up sharply. "The cost of production of fodder, including sorghum, has gone up. Because of this, cow-rearing involves a high cost. After 2019, the Government has not increased the procurement price of milk.

At present, the procurement price of milk is Rs. 22 per litre and that of high-fat milk is Rs. 28. Since this price is causing severe losses, the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Aavin management should fix the procurement price in accordance with the prevailing price rise.

This means that the procurement price of cow's milk should be increased to Rs. 41 per litre, and that of buffalo milk should be increased to Rs. 52 per litre and that of mixed fodder should be given a subsidised price," demanded the milk producers as they raised slogans.

The protest which drew the attention of the Government created a tense atmosphere in the area for some time.
