'Cancel permission for fireworks shops set up in violation of rules in Coimbatore:' Hindustan Makkal Sevai Iyyakam petitions Dist. Collector

A petition has been submitted to the District Collector seeking cancellation of permission for firecracker shops set up in marriage halls in violation of rules across Coimbatore district.

Coimbatore: The Hindustan Makkal Sevai Iyakkam leader, Lotus Manikandan, submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran, seeking cancellation of permission for these fireworks shops that have been set up in violation of norms.

Fireworks shops are being set up in marriage halls and public places in violation of norms across Coimbatore district in spite of several instances of fire accidents in such venues in the past. Hence, the Hindustan Makkal Iyakkam leader, Lotus Manikandan stated in the petition that "The Diwali festival will be celebrated on 24.10.2022. For this purpose, permission has been given to set up fireworks shops across Coimbatore district. But fireworks shops are being put up every year in violation of the rules which has resulted in accidents and danger to the public, in the past. Therefore, permission should be cancelled for fireworks shops being set up in marriage halls and public places across Coimbatore district, without taking any precautionary measures. Action should also be taken against Government officials who granted permission to fireworks shops operating in violation of norms. The District Collector should direct the concerned authorities to inspect all the areas to see if the permitted fireworks shops have been put up as per the rules."
