Everyone needs a peaceful Coimbatore - massive human chain protest led by VCK and allied secular parties

On behalf of all parties, a massive human chain was held in Coimbatore in which various parties in Tamil Nadu participated yesterday.

Coimbatore: In a bid to promote communal harmony among the people, a human chain of social harmony was held in Coimbatore today. Thousands of people from all parties participated in it.

In the wake of fierce clashes between the two groups in Coimbatore last month, a human chain of social harmony was held at places including Nanjappa Salai and Crosscut Road in Gandhipuram area of Coimbatore to press for the maintenance of peace and tranquillity in the city.

Championed by VCK across Tamilnadu and led by CPI (M) District secretary Padmanabhan, TPDK general secretary K Ramakrishnan, former MLA Arumugam and May 17 movement coordinator Thirumurugan Gandhi, the human chain protest was attended by over a thousand people who raised slogans such as "Peaceful Coimbatore is needed for all, peaceful Tamil Nadu is needed by all".

CPM district secretary Padmanabhan told reporters, "for the last 15 days, Hindu fundamentalist organisations and RSS organisations have been making Coimbatore tense. Against this, democratic, secular and left-wing organisations across Tamil Nadu have come together to form a human chain protest across Tamil Nadu demanding "Peaceful Coimbatore for all" and "Peaceful Tamil Nadu is needed by all".

Through the human chain, we appeal to everyone to be equal and to preserve the unity of the people.

More than 5,000 people from across the district have participated in this human chain. Said.

Thirumurugan Gandhi, coordinator of the May 17 movement, said:

A large number of people have participated in the human chain run by democratic organisations against the politics of BJP, RSS and Hindutva organisations which are promoting communalism in Tamil Nadu and promoting separatism for political gains by dividing Tamils and proving that there is no place for the politics of Hindutva chauvinism in Tamil Nadu.

This human chain tells India that we will uproot the politics of bigotry brought about by the Modi government. We stand hand in hand against the politics of Hindutva chauvinism, cutting across party, caste and religion. This is the politics of this land, the politics of the Markis, the politics of Ambedkar. He said.
