Tension prevailed in the Coonoor Sims Park area when a beehive was accidentally disturbed and bees began to swarm around tourists and attacking them.
The Nilgiris: Tourists at the Coonoor Sims Park were in for a rude shock when a beehive at the park was accidentally disturbed leading to bees swarming around tourists.
Nilgiris district is a popular tourist destination in Tamil Nadu with tourists from both India and abroad thronging the district all through the year. The Ooty Boat House, Rose Garden, Botanical Garden, Coonoor Sims Park, Ooty Tea Garden, Suicide Point are a few of the renowned tourist attractions in Nilgiris district.
On Tuesday, when tourists were enjoying a pleasant sroll around Sims Park in Coonoor, a beehive was accidentally disturbed which led to bees attacking the tourists in the area. Two tourists from Kerala and an employee in the park, Sivakumar, were injured when the bees attacked them.
Immediately, the staff at the Sims Park fumigated about five spots across the park to ward off the bees and protected tourists. There were no major casualties as tourists were immediately evacuated out of the park. A temporary ban was placed on anyone entering Coonoor Sims Park, for a period of time.
