To ensure the safety of the girl child, we are monitoring them at their homes: Coimbatore City Police Commissioner K Balakrishnan

The City Police Commissioner, who participated in a bicycle distribution programme organised by Rotary Club on the occasion of International Girl Child Day, distributed bicycles to 300 girl students.

Coimbatore: On the occasion of International Girl Child Day, Rotary Club organised a function to distribute bicycles to girl children.

Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed bicycles to 300 students.

Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner of Police said, "I bought the first bicycle when I was studying in Class 6. That bicycle was also received by the gift of the draw. The bicycle we rode during the school season will cover a variety of memories.

Children should give importance to both studies and sports. Girls are nature's gift. Various measures are being taken for the safety of children in Coimbatore city. In particular, we focus more on preventing crime and protecting children beyond catching the culprits after the crime has taken place.

We have set up a small library in slum areas and some main streets. We have been ensuring the safety of women constables from time to time by visiting the homes where there is no female security, especially single parents, mentally challenged, differently-abled girl children and alcoholic parents.

It is very important that the public realizes that they are safe when they often take to the streets and see a patrol vehicle in their area. Similarly, an initiative has been taken to ensure the safety of the girl child by visiting their homes to make them feel confident and safe.

Similarly, the police are conducting various awareness programmes in Coimbatore city and district areas in association with voluntary organisations to ensure the safety of girl children, he said.

Rotary Club District Governor Rajmohan Nair, former Governor Sahadevan and others were present on the occasion.
