There have been several allegations for many years that Isha Foundation and Karunya University have encroached upon lands without permission in the foothills of Coimbatore, which is rich in natural beauty and resources. The CPI (M) has announced that it will hold a protest on October 16 to protest against this.
Coimbatore: A meeting of district presidents and office-bearers of CPI (M), Congress, CPI, MDMK, VCK, TPDK and Ambedkarist and Periyarist organisations was held at the CPI (M) office in Gandhipuram in Coimbatore to demand that the buildings of Isha and Karunya, which have been constructed on lakhs of square feet without environmental clearance, should be demolished and removed.

CPI (M) district secretary Padmanabhan said they would hold a protest at Alandarai on the Oct. 16th against this.

CPM district secretary Padmanabhan held a press conference after the meeting and said, “A human chain will be held on October 11, 2022 to promote communal harmony among the people of Coimbatore. More than 5000 people will take part in it. Further, action should be taken against Isha Yoga Centre and Karunya Educational Institutions functioning at the foothills of the Western Ghats near Coimbatore for constructing buildings without obtaining permission from the government.
An all-party demonstration will be held at Alandurai on the 16th to press for these demands. Strict action is being taken even if a 500 sq ft building is constructed in Coimbatore city and rural areas without permission.
These organisations have constructed buildings on more than 10 lakh square feet of land without any permission. Buildings have been constructed at the foothills without permission to affect the ecology. Due to this, the elephants are stranded within a radius of 20 km and they are diverted. These Isha and Karunya institutions should not be given rotational permission and the buildings of Isha and Karunya, which were constructed without permission, should be demolished and removed.
All parties will hold a demonstration at Alandurai on The 16th to press for this. It is a bad practice that educational institutions do not require circular clearance. More than 500 educational institutions across the country are located at the foot of the hill. The central and state governments should take appropriate action against unauthorised buildings. This is what he said.
