Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner announces opening of homeless, destitute hostel on land owned by Corporation under the "Destitute and homeless need not worry" program.
Coimbatore: Today is World Destitute Day (10.10.2022) and to commemorate this day, Coimbatore Corporation and Helping Hearts Foundation jointly celebrated World Destitute Day at No.16 K.N.G.Pudur area.
Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M. Prathap presided over the function for the destitute and the elderly.
On the occasion of World Destitute Day, Corporation Commissioner M. Prathap distributed 15 types of essential commodities such as idli making machines and certificates of appreciation to 40 destitutes and elderly persons residing in the old age home at the function held in Ward No.16, West Zone Ward No.16 K.N.G.Pudur area.
Speaking on the occasion, the Coimbatore Commissioner said, “Today is celebrated as World Homeless Day. There are a total of 5 homeless hostels in 100 wards under our Coimbatore Corporation. a total of 280 homeless people are staying. These are maintained by three NGOs namely Helping Hearts, Eeranenjam and Malarum Kangal Social Welfare Society. Further, the inmates are being screened monthly by the Corporation medical team and they are being provided with medicines and tablets.
At present, it is proposed to accommodate about 130 homeless persons in 6550 sq.ft. of Coimbatore Corporation at a cost of Rs.140 lakhs. Similarly, the basic work required for the construction of a shelter home for the homeless destitute has started at the corporation owned land located in Thekkady lane in ward no.72 of central zone. No one needs to worry about the destitute as the corporation administration will provide all the services you need.”
Deputy Mayor R. Vetriselvan, West Zone President K.A. Deivanai Thamizhmarai, Town Welfare Officer Dr. Pratip Vasudevan Krishanakumar, Zonal Assistant Commissioner Sekar, Councillors Thamilselvan, Sampath, Babu, Assistant Executive Engineer Shahumalatha, Assistant Town Planning Officer Kalavathi, Health Inspector Chandrasekaran and corporation officials were present on the occasion.
