Unni alias Madhusudhanan who was wanted in various theft and dacoity cases had been absconding for a long period of time. He was yet again involved in dacoity in Sitra area when he was nabbed by the Peelamedu Police Inspector Ganesh, Sub-Inspector Rajnikanth and other policemen in the team.
Coimbatore: While crimes such as cyber crimes, sale of ganja, vehicle theft, dacoity in neighbourhoods have been on the rise on one hand, motorists and pedestrians who finish their work late at night have also had to deal with dacoits.
Coimbatore residents have been witnessing incidents of snatching of jewellery, mobile phones and cash at night which are more frequent in areas likePeelamedu, Sitra and Saravanampatti.
Kathiravan had returned home from work in the Sitra area on Avinashi Road around midnight on October 10. An unidentified person reportedly stopped him and brandished a knife to rob him of Rs 5,400 cash. Kathiravan immediately informed the Peelamedu police and based on his complaint, the Peelamedu police rushed to the area and caught the person involved in the robbery.
The police revealed the identity of the person nabbed, as Unni alias Madhusudhanan, a well-known dacoit who had been wanted by the police for a long time. Unni (27) who does not have a job has been surviving by indulging in thefts. He already has more than 10 cases pending against him in Saravanampatti and Peelamedu police stations for indulging in illegal activities, including dacoity.
The City Police Commissioner, Balakrishnan and the public lauded the Peelamedu police station team led by the Peelamedu Police Inspector Ganesh and Sub-Inspector Rajnikanth for nabbing the much-sought after dacoit, Unni.
