Two workers were killed yesterday in a mudslide during the construction of a retaining wall in a private school in Manjanakorai village near Udhagai near the Nilgiris district.
The Nilgiris: The construction of a retaining wall in a private school in Manjanakorai village near Udhagai near the Nilgiris district was in progress. Sait (53) and Velu (28), both residents of Omalur in Salem, who were on the job of erecting the retaining wall yesterday, were trapped when the mudslide suddenly occurred while the workers were taking the sand to build the retaining wall.

Two persons, Sait (53) and Velu (28), both residents of Omalur in Salem, who were trapped in the landslide, died on the spot.
The fire brigade and the police rushed to the spot after hearing the complaint of the accident. The team recovered the bodies of Sait (53) and Velu (28) and took the body to ooty medical college hospital for post-mortem and further investigation into the incident is underway.



District Collector Amrit, who inspected the spot, ordered a temporary suspension of the work on the retaining wall till the investigation is completed.
