Valparai Municipal Council Vice-President alleges slackness of work in installing street lights across Valparai municipality

Senthil Kumar, the Vice-President of Valparai Municipal Council Vice-President submitted a petition alleging that the work of installing street lights at various places in Valparai municipality has come to a standstill and no action has been taken despite two petitions to replace the existing contractor.

Coimbatore: City Council Vice-President, T M Senthil Kumar has filed a petition seeking immediate action in Valparai municipality with regard to the demand to remove the existing contractor and appoint a new contractor to expedite street lighting works.

T M Senthilkumar has submitted a petition to the Municipality Town Council President, Azhagu Sundaravalli and Commissioner Baalu in Valparai. The memorandum stated, "In the 21 wards in and around Valparai, basic amenities like drinking water, street lights and cleanliness works have been delayed.

While the city council members in all areas are doing their work well, it is alleged that false complaints are being made against the city council members as the subaltern works to be carried out by the municipality are not functioning properly.

Therefore, the municipality should provide for the basic needs of the people such as regularisation of drinking water supply, appointment of additional sanitation workers, street lighting works etc. Importantly, it was decided to cancel the existing contract in the council meetings held twice over, the complete stalling of the street lighting work, but no action has been taken so far.

Therefore, steps should be taken to cancel the old street lighting contract and appoint a new contractor and regularise the installation of street lights."
