Coimbatore: Bilichi Panchayat President Savithri and her husband Rajan have been arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs.15,000 to issue a plot building license and a drawing permit in Coimbatore.

Karthik who hails from G N Mills in Coimbatore had purchased two plots in his wife's name in Periyanaickenpalayam Bilichi Panchayat. He had also paid the required Government fee for obtaining the building permit and drawing permission for the site. The Panchayat President Savithri and her husband Rajan demanded a bribe of Rs.20,000 from Karthik to issue the license. Since Karthik had responded to the demand saying that he did not have enough money, they agreed to a bribe of Rs.15,000.

Karthik lodged a complaint with the Anti-corruption police in this regard. The police decided to nab the Panchayat President and her husband red-handed and directed Karthik to hand over Rs.15,000 to them as bribe. Accordingly, when Karthik handed over the demanded bribe amount of Rs.15,000 to the couple, the police who were hiding in the area nabbed the Panchayat President Savithri and her husband Rajan.

Following this, the couple were arrested on charges of accepting a bribe. The arrest created a stir in the panchayat.
