Coimbatore: A lone elephant broke open the iron door of an agricultural estate at Thaliyur near Thondamuthur and damaged crops including banana, tomato and spinach.
Two months ago, a herd of about 10 elephants had entered the agricultural fields in the villages around Thaliyur near Thondamuthur in Coimbatore district. After a lot of struggle, the forest department chased the herd of elephants to madhukarai forest.
For the past two months, the farmers in the area have heaved a sigh of relief and for the last three days, a lone elephant roaming in Devarayapuram, Vandikaranpudur, Viraliyur Thaliyur villages has been damaging crops including bananas and tomatoes cultivated in the agricultural estate.
In this situation, a single wild elephant, which came to Thaliyur area last night, entered three farmlands in a row and damaged the banana, tomatoes and greens.
When the elephant entered the garden of Nagaraj and tried to come out after damaging the crops, the elephant broke open the iron door as solar panels were installed all around the garden. Following this, the lone elephant walked on the Narasipuram road and entered the forest.
CCTV footage of a single wild elephant breaking the iron door and going out has created panic and panic among the people of the area.
Farmers from the area have urged the forest department to prevent elephants from entering residential and agricultural lands so that the elephant, which is indulging in crop damage, should be driven out into the forest.
