Coimbatore: The State Monitoring Team of the National Green Tribunal for Solid Waste Management is conducting a study on solid waste management across Tamil Nadu.

As part of this, the Chairman of the Monitoring Committee, Justice Dr. P Jothimani who arrived in Coimbatore will inspect five locations, including the Vellalore garbage depot owned by the Coimbatore Corporation, the Ondipudur sewage treatment plant and garbage grading centre near R S Puram Uzhavar Market.

On Thursday, in the first phase of inspections, the Chairman of the Monitoring Committee visited the Vellalore garbage depot and inspected the bio-degradable and makkah waste segregation site. Subsequently, he also visited the vermicomposting centre and Miyawaki dense forest areas and inspected the works. He also enquired from the officials about the health hazards in the areas and the serial fire accidents caused by the Vellalore garbage dump.

Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Commissioner, M Prathap, Deputy Mayor R Vetri Selvan and Deputy Commissioner M Sharmila were present during the inspection.
