Karamadai forest range officials rescue 4-year-old injured Thevangu in the forest range

The blind Thevangu was found injured in the Karamadai forest range area and was rescued by Forest Department officials while on a regular patrolling of the area. The Thevangu was taken to the veterinary hospital where it is being treated.

Coimbatore: During regular patrolling by the Forest Department in the Karamadai forest area, a four-year-old Thevangu (Slender Loris) which had injuries on its body was rescued and admitted to a veterinary hospital where it is being treated.

The Karamadai forest range in Coimbatore district is home to many species of animals like leopards, elephants and thevangu. When the Special Task Force (STF) personnel at the Athikadavu camp were patrolling the forest area, a four-year-old Thevangu was found blind in one eye and severely injured in its hand and bleeding profusely. The Special Task Force personnel rescued the Thevangu and gave it some water.

The Karamadai Forest Department then handed over the Thevangu to a forest department team led by the Karamadai Forest Officer Divya. The injured Thevangu was then rushed to the Velliangadu Veterinary Government Hospital for intensive treatment with doctors monitoring it.

The Forest Department officials claim that the Thevangu could have been injured by a vulture or could have escaped while being hunted down. Further investigation is on by the forest officials.
