Vadakkanchery: Nine people, including school students and teacher killed as two buses collide on Vadakkancheri national highway.

The accident took place near the Kollamtara bus stop at Anchumoorthimangalam in the National Highway Walayar in Vadakancheri region..


Vadakkanchery: As many as 42 students of a private school in Kerala's Ernakulam district (Baselios Vidyanikethan Senior Secondary School) and five teachers left for Ooty last night in a private tourist bus to go for a picnic.

At around 11.30 am, when the tourist bus reached near Vadakkancheri Mangalam, it was found that it tried to overtake the Kerala government bus which was on its way to Coimbatore. The tourist bus, which lost control, collided head-on with the government bus and overturned on the road.





The tourist bus carrying 42 students and five teachers then collided with a KSRTC bus and overturned into a swamp, killing 9 passengers. 12 passengers have been seriously injured.

The deceased have been identified as Vishnu (teacher), Agnyana Ajith, Immanuel, Diya Rajesh, Chris Winterban Thomas, Elna Jose, Anoop, Rojith Raj (24) and Deepu are the nine who have tragically lost their lives.

The Vadakkanchery police, who came to know about the incident, launched a rescue operation with the help of the fire department. The injured students and government bus passengers were shifted to Thrissur government hospital and Palakkad nemmara government hospital. They are being treated intensively there.





Meanwhile, when the bus involved in the accident was removed using boclaine, it was found that the teacher and two students were trapped under the bus and died.

The bodies of the nine people who died in the accident were sent to the government hospital for post-mortem. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the driver of the tourist bus was driving the bus at a high speed which was the main reason for the accident.
