Coimbatore: Bangalore-based Anmol Jewellery has been manufacturing gold jewellery ornaments for the past 25 years and selling them at wholesale prices to popular jewellery shops across Tamil Nadu.

Hanuman Duwesi who hails from Rajasthan works as the Manager of the marketing unit of Anmol jewellers. His job entailed handing over pre-ordered jewellery safely to respective jewellery shops in Coimbatore, obtain a receipt for the same and then send the receipts and transfer money transactions to Bangalore.

Between August 8 and September 12, Hanuman reportedly brought 13.5 kg of gold jewellery from Bangalore to Coimbatore for distribution. But it is alleged that Hanuman did not distribute the jewellery brought to the jewellery shops in Coimbatore that had ordered the jewellery.

Anmol Jewellers' owner Chaknal Khatri has sought an explanation from Hanuman regarding the cash transactions that were unaccounted for the jewellery that had supposedly been distributed. However, Hanuman reportedly did not respond to the owner's questions properly.

Suspecting foul play, Anmol Jewellers' owner realised that the jewellery weighing 13.5 kg had been misappropriated and decided to lodge a complaint against Hanuman with the Variety Hall police in Coimbatore. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and on the orders of the City Police Commissioner, V Balakrishnan, a special team led by Inspector Pandiammal was formed to investigate the theft.

Based on the investigation, Hanuman was arrested by the Special Cell police and sent to jail. It is reported that no jewellery was seized from him. Meanwhile, the Special Task Force (STF) police are on the lookout for a person named Dalpat Singh, a former employee of the shop to investigate further into the jewellery fraud.
