Intelligence agencies conduct raids at residences of those arrested in connection with petrol bomb attack incidents in Coimbatore

The raids were conducted to ascertain the identities of those arrested and the forces behind them with regard to the petrol bomb blasts in Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: Intelligence bureau officials conducted raids at the residences of nine persons arrested in connection with the petrol bomb blasts in Coimbatore.

In Coimbatore district, petrol bombs were hurled at six places, starting from the BJP office at the end of September to the residences of Hindu Munnani leaders in the past week. While there was no casualty due to these incidents, tension built up in the city as public panicked.

As many as 18 special squads were formed to investigate the incident which created a lot of tension and commotion in the city. Nine persons involved in the petrol bomb blast were arrested while the Special Task Force (STF) police were investigating the matter. Most of the arrested belong to the banned PFI and STPI.

Even as the police took the arrested persons into custody to interrogate them, it was also decided to conduct searches at the houses of those arrested and those under the leadership of officers appointed to investigate the case.

It is now reported that various evidence have been seized in the raids conducted on Wednesday and details of those who are behind those arrested will be ascertained through the raids at the houses of the arrested persons. According to police sources, since all those arrested were of the same nature, the police were forced to identify the persons behind it and take appropriate action to prevent any untoward incident in the future.

They said the report of the inspection will soon be sent to the notice of the City Police Commissioner, V Balakrishnan and based on that the next steps will be intensified. It is to be noted that the police are gearing up to weed out the forces behind criminals to keep Coimbatore safe.
