The police arrested three members of the Hindu Munnani on the complaint of a shop owner after they got into an argument under the influence of alcohol demanding the closure of a beef shop in Periyanaickenpalayam area.
Coimbatore: Police have arrested three Hindu Munnani activists for allegedly demanding the closure of a beef shop under the influence of alcohol near Periyanaickenpalayam.
Mohammed Sikander (32), a resident of PSG Garden, Press Colony near Periyanaickenpalayam in Coimbatore district runs a beef shop in the same area. He had opened the shop as usual on Tuesday morning and was doing business. When Mohammed Sikander went home in the afternoon to have lunch, a young man was in the shop looking after business. At that time, it is reported that three men, aged about 35 years visited the beed shop and asked the young man in the shop why the shop was kept open. Thereafter, the three men allegedly threatened the young man to close the shop and go home, and forcibly downed the shutter of the shop. The frightened youth ran out of the shop and informed mohammad Sikander.
When Mohammed Sikandar informed the Periyanaickenpalayam police, the police reached the spot and nabbed the three men involved in the dispute and took them to the police station for questioning. During the investigation, the three men were identified as the Hindu Munnani Periyanaickenpalayam Union General Secretary Shanmugam (40), Jyothipuram Union Executive Committee member Vinod (32) and Jyothipuram Union President Murugan (48).
Investigations revealed that the three men had consumed liquor on Wednesday and were intoxicated when they had an argument with the youth who was in the beef shop and threatened him to close the shop. Following this, the police arrested the three men and sent them to jail.
