The leopard which was trapped in barbed wire in a private coffee plantation in Athichal area and was battling for its life, was rescued safely by the Forest Department officials by administering an anaesthetic.
The Nilgiris: A leopard which was battling for its life after getting stuck in barbed wire in a coffee plantation in Athichal area near Pandalur was rescued by the Forest Department after being administered an anaesthesia.
Athichal village falls under the Cherambadi forest range in Pandalur taluk. On October 1, the Forest Department had received information that a leopard was fighting for its life after getting stuck in barbed wire in a private coffee plantation in the area. Cherambadi forest officials rushed to the spot and tried to rescue the leopard which began to get aggressive.
Following this, the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve veterinary doctor, Rajesh Kumar was summoned and the leopard was administered an anesthetic injection. Thereafter, the Forest Department rescued the unconscious leopard and moved it to the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve where it is being treated by a medical team.
The Forest Department arrested Aneesh (39), the relative of Mathew (69), the owner of the estate who is absconding.
